Bethany Hamilton is mourning the loss of her nephew.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, the professional surfer, 34, shared that her nephew Andrew — whom she previously revealed was taken to a hospital after drowning on Oct. 11 — has died. She posted the news for her followers on Instagram, hours after the boy's father, Timothy Hamilton, announced the death of his son on his own Instagram page. Per Timothy's post, Andrew was born on Dec. 26, 2020, and was 3 years old.

"The Lord has received my sweet nephew Andrew into his beautiful care," Bethany wrote. "While my family and I will miss him dearly, we trust that his joy is full with Jesus."

The athlete then shared a prayer, alongside several photos of the young boy, before thanking her supporters for "all for the love, prayers and support in this trying time."

Andrew's father wrote on Instagram on Friday, Oct. 18, that his son had died, "succumbing to injuries sustained a week prior in a drowning accident, after all of the best life-saving interventions had been exhausted."

Andrew is also being mourned by his mother Kyah, siblings Thomas, Joshua, Matthew, Noelle, and John, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, per Timothy's post.

"It hurts terribly, and we miss Andrew more than words can express. But we do not mourn as those who have no hope," Timothy wrote. "We rejoice in the certain hope of the glory of God, into whose name Andrew was baptized."

Bethany previously shared news of her “sweet” and “precious” nephew's condition on social media last week, writing in an Oct. 12 post that Andrew drowned on the evening of Oct. 11. Andrew was medevaced to a hospital in Oahu, Hawaii, on the morning of Oct. 12, the surfer previously wrote, appearing to refer to Kapiʻolani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu.

At the time of her post, Andrew had "a heartbeat" and had "fight in him," Bethany wrote.

“We are wrecked,” she wrote at the time. “But I know how proper medical support can make or break someone’s chance of survival and in this case we’re asking for help from anyone who has information of what we can do to give my nephew the best chance.”

Through her post, Bethany got in contact with Louisiana-based doctor and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) expert Dr. Paul Harch, she shared in an update. Per Mayo Clinic, the therapy is “a well-established treatment for decompression sickness, a potential risk of scuba diving" and involves "breathing pure oxygen in a pressurized environment.”

“We trust that God has Andrew in his hands,” the mom-of-four wrote at the time.

After announcing the news of Andrew's death on Saturday, Bethany shared an image of the young boy resting with her, which she said was taken "the other day."

"Andrew is and was loved so well," she wrote. "His joy is full in the Lord."
