China's failure to provide access to global health experts made the COVID-19 pandemic worse than it had to be, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Sunday, and it was important to "get to the bottom" of the origin of the novel coronavirus. China did not give access to international experts or share information in real time to provide true transparency, Blinken said in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press." As a result, the virus "got out of hand faster and with, I think, much more egregious results than it might otherwise," Blinken said.
Kolkata Knight Riders started its Indian Premier League campaign with a 10-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. Half centuries from Nitish Rana (80) and Rahul Tripathi (53) formed the core of Kolkata’s 187-6, after being put into bat, despite Hyderabad making a strong comeback in the last five overs by claiming five wickets for 42 runs. Manish Pandey’s unbeaten 61 off 44 balls went in vain as Kolkata restricted Hyderabad to 177-5 in its 20 overs.

The French government on Sunday condemned the defacing of an Islamic cultural centre in western France with Islamaphobic slogans, and said an attack on Muslims was an attack on the Republic. The tags, daubed on the side a building used as a prayer room in the city of Rennes, were found shortly before the Muslim holy month of Ramadan begins in France on Tuesday. Interior Minister Gerard Darmanin said it was a disgusting attack against the fundamental freedom to believe in a religion and that Muslims deserved the same protection as any other religious group in France.

British people are known for being self-deprecating, but even they might have felt a little blindsided by “Minari” star Yuh-Jung Youn’s brutally honest, funny assessment of them. Shortly after offering her condolences for the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, during her BAFTA Film Awards acceptance speech for supporting actress, Youn then delivered arguably the […]
Double Olympic champion Helen Glover moved closer to becoming the first British mother to row at a Games on Sunday when she won women's pair gold at the European championships in her first competition for nearly five years. The 34-year-old, a winner in the Italian lakeside city of Varese with Polly Swann, has had three children since the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics and is aiming for a comeback at the Tokyo Games in July. Glover won coxless pairs gold at Rio and the London 2012 Games with now-retired Heather Stanning.
Tanzanian opposition leader Freeman Mbowe called on Sunday for the new government to prioritise a new constitution, reviving calls for limiting presidential powers. Mbowe, chairman of Chadema, the country's main opposition party, said in a speech the current constitution gives “someone the chance to be a dictator or a king", adding it should be a government priority to set a timetable and a procedural framwork to change the consitution. Mbowe also called on President Samia Suluhu Hassan to "fast track" her proposal, presented on Tuesday, to form a scientific committee to research COVID-19.

The winners of the EE British Academy Film Awards are being announced over two nights for the first time ever due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Bologna had plenty of chances to edge in front in the first half, but their wastefulness in front of goal proved costly as Mayoral broke clear on the counter before slotting home one minute before halftime. The chances dried up for the visitors after the break, as Roma claimed a first league win in their last four games with ease. The result kept seventh-placed Roma five points adrift of Napoli in fourth after 30 games played, while Bologna stayed 11th on 34 points.

The EE British Academy Film Awards, presented by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), are handing out film awards in a virtual ceremony on Sunday. TheWrap will update the list of winners as they are announced. Florian Zeller and Christopher Hampton won the adapted-screenplay award for “The Father.” In the first award of the show, Pixar’s “Soul” was named the year’s best animated film. The ceremony is the second of two weekend presentations, following a Saturday event in which six below-the-line and two short-film categories were announced. In those categories, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” won two awards, one for costume and one for makeup and hair, while other awards went to “Mank” (production design), “Sound of Metal” (sound), “Tenet” (visual effects) and “Rocks” (casting). BAFTA’s awards have long been considered a strong predictor of the Oscars because of the large number of British members in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Over the last five years, the 18 categories shared by the two shows have seen at least nine and as many as 14 BAFTA winners repeat at the Oscars. Also Read: Chloe Zhao Wins Directors Guild Award for 'Nomadland' - Complete List of Winners The BAFTA Best Film category, though, has not gone to the eventual Oscar winner since “12 Years a Slave” won both awards in 2014. The six BAFTA winners since then – “Boyhood,” “The Revenant,” “La La Land,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Roma” and “1917” – have all fallen short at the Oscars. This year’s BAFTA nominations, which took place after an overhaul of nomination procedures designed to produce a more diverse slate of contenders, differ far more dramatically than usual from the Oscar nominations. The differences are particularly notable in the categories in which nominees are chosen by juries, including director and all four acting categories. Also at the show, director Ang Lee was presented with the BAFTA Fellowship, the organization’s highest award. Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary hosted the show from the Royal Albert Hall in London, with all the nominees and winners participating via video links. Here is the list of BAFTA nominees.
