"Suppressed emotions" as Beijing tightens restrictions

STORY: The city looked like a ghost town on Saturday as authorities rushed to clamp down on COVID cases from spreading.

Apartment blocks have been sealed, preventing residents from leaving, and certain spas, gyms, cinemas and libraries, and at least two shopping malls closed on Friday (April 29).

Most of the city's tourist spots require a COVID test 48 hours prior to the access.

The Chaoyang district, which was the first to undergo mass testing this week, started the last of three rounds of screening of its 3.5 million residents on Friday. Most other districts are due for their third round of tests on Saturday.
