A group describing themselves as friends of the journalist Kamal Khashoggi, and including representatives of Amnesty and Reporters Without Borders, gathered outside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, two years after Khashoggi was killed there.
A joint statement by Amnesty International and Reporters Without Borders described the Saudi judicial process around Khashoggi’s murder as “theatre” and “lacking transparency”. The statement said the process, which concluded in the jailing of eight people, avoiding “holding accountable those who ordered the murder.”
