Supermodel Irina Shayk's "swimming pool" foundation technique is actually genius
There's no denying it; Russian supermodel Irina Shayk (who has been in the news mostly regarding her split with Bradley Cooper) has the skin of actual dreams.
Genetics play a big part in it, sure, but that doesn't mean we can't still obsess over her skincare routine (it includes a £215 eye cream, in case you were wondering) or the makeup she applies to enhance that god-given glow.
Well, our prayers have been answered, because she just dropped a bathroom tutorial with Vogue, listing her go-to skincare and makeup products, plus some little tips and tricks thrown in for us to lap up like excitable puppies.
She's a fan of de-puffing her face with ice cubes (a celebrity favourite), and uses a 24k pure gold mask ("I'm Russian, I love gold.") But the thing that made us stop and stare the most was the way she applied her foundation.
The foundation in question was the Pat Mcgrath Labs Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, £60 (Irina featured in a recent campaign for the brand's new mascara), but the model didn't just apply one shade, oh no...
"I like to mix colours," she told watchers, "because now I'm a little bit tanned. So I mix three colours."
She dropped one squirt of each foundation shade into the palm of her hand and mixed them together with her finger, saying, "You do a little swimming pool of foundation and you go very lightly only on the areas you need. But first, you try a little just to see if it works."
Now guys, we know not everyone can afford to buy three different shades of a £60 foundation. But Irina's advice is still really good if you use a more affordable foundation but can't quite get the perfect shade match (the Cosmopolitan beauty team are obsessed with NYX Professional Makeup Born To Glow Naturally Radiant Foundation, £10, in case you haven't tried it yet).
If you can, try buying a shade either side of your closest match and mixing them together like Irina. It means parting with more money to begin with, but should last you long enough to justify the extra cost...
