Sununu says he ‘probably’ wouldn’t be Haley’s running mate: ‘I’m a little too hot’

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R), who has endorsed Nikki Haley in the GOP primary, said on Monday ahead of the Iowa caucuses that he would “probably not” be her running mate.

“Look, I’d do anything for Nikki Haley but not — but probably not that. That’s not my gig. I don’t think Washington — I don’t think Washington could handle me, Neil,” Sununu told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto when pressed on whether he was interested in being Haley’s running mate.

“I don’t know. I think I’m a little too hot,” the New Hampshire Republican added.

Sununu announced last month that he would endorse Haley in the GOP primary after much speculation about a potential pick. Haley has gradually seen momentum in the state, with some polls in the Granite State showing Haley trailing former President Trump by single digits.

An average of New Hampshire polls compiled by Decision Desk HQ and The Hill shows Trump in first place at 42 percent, while Haley is at 31 percent. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is in a distant third at close to 7 percent.

Haley has also seen some momentum in Iowa where recent polls also show her coming in second, though trailing farther behind Trump.

Iowa has largely been seen as the make-or-break state for DeSantis because he’s staked out much of his time in the Hawkeye State but has been unable to close the gap against Trump there.
