Sunrise Over Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains Illuminates Smoke and Fog

Sunrise illuminated dense fog and smoke from West Coast wildfires over the Blue Ridge Mountains in Lebanon, Virginia, on September 14.

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook for portions of southwestern Virginia, warning patchy fog could reduce visibility. Local news reported high altitude wildfire smoke from the West Coast was still having a “slight effect” in the Virginia area, creating a “vivid horizon sun.”
