Sudan's 'military will continue with democratic transition'

The announcement came after soldiers arrested most of the members of Sudan's cabinet and a large number of pro-government party leaders in an apparent coup, according to political sources.

Earlier on Monday, al-Burhan declared a state of emergency and dissolved the council and the transitional government.

The country's information ministry said Burhan had effectively staged a "military coup" in reaction to his statement.
