Students Crowd Manhattan Sidewalk After First Day of School

New York City’s public schools opened for in-person learning on September 13, as many students in the city made their way to class for the first time since March of 2020.

Schools reopened across the five boroughs despite a lack of access to coronavirus vaccines for students under 12. New York City has not mandated COVID-19 vaccinations for students over 12, an age group for whom the FDA has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
