Student Arrested After Brandishing Knife in Maryland High School Cafeteria

A school resource officer at a high school in Frederick, Maryland, intervened after a student brandished a kitchen knife and attempted to approach another student “in a threatening manner,” the sheriff’s office said.

Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Dustin Turner intervened after a 14-year-old female student brandished an 8-to-10-inch kitchen knife at another female student in the cafeteria of Governor Thomas Johnson High School.

The office said the student was taken into custody without “any injuries or further incident.” Her charges include first-degree assault, resisting arrest, and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property

The sheriff’s office released footage of the incident after the Fredrick News Post published contradictory accounts, among them a statement from a school spokesperson who said there had been a “verbal altercation.”

“DFC Turner’s quick and decisive actions prevented any students or staff from being harmed during this incident,” Sheriff Chuck Jenkins said. Credit: Frederick County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
