Strong winds battered Kansas late on Wednesday, January 13, and were expected to continue on Thursday, with National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters warning of blowing dust and reduced visibility.
The NWS shared this video of flags flapping in the wind outside of the weather service’s office in Goodland. The NWS said the footage shows gusts around 65 mph shortly before 11 pm on Wednesday.
The weather service said wind speeds could reach 70 mph on Thursday. Both a high-wind warning and red-flag warning were issued for the region on Thursday, alerting residents to “damaging” winds and an increased threat for fires. Credit: NWS Goodland via Storyful
