Strong Activity From Cumbre Vieja Volcano Sees More Evacuations

Hundreds of people were told to evacuate their homes on the Spanish island of La Palma on Tuesday, October 12, as the Cumbre Vieja volcano continued to spew lava.

This footage, taken by Manuel Nogales from the Spanish National Research Council’s Institute of Natural Products and Agrobiology (IPNA-CSIC), shows lava flowing down the hillside.

Between 700 and 800 people were told to evacuate from Los Llanos de Aridane as lava advanced towards the municipality, bringing the total number of people displaced by the eruption to about 6,800, according to El Pais. Credit: Manuel Nogales/IPNA-CSIC via Storyful
