Katie McGlynn has named Caroline Flack as her favourite past Strictly Come Dancing contestant.

The 28-year-old actor — best known for playing Sinead Tinker in Coronation Street  is taking part in the BBC dance contest this year and said the late TV presenter, who won the show in 2014, is her biggest inspiration from past series.

McGlynn told Yahoo UK: "I think Caroline Flack was just incredible. If you if you watch her journey throughout it, she was just insanely amazing."

The Hollyoaks actor is a huge Strictly fan and admits it is entertaining to watch the judges deliver harsh criticism of the contestants on the show.

But McGlynn doesn't think she'll be able to take it if the judges are too mean to her.

She said: "When I watch it on telly I love the drama — I don't like it when they completely take the Michael out of the contestants, I think it's mean — but sometimes it is quite funny.

"But when it's me I'll probably just go quiet and not say anything, or cry!"

And the soap star insists she will struggle to act 'sexy' on the dancefloor.

McGlynn said: "I am just not sexy! I'm really awkward. I'm hoping on the day that I do these dances, I'm just gonna morph into a different character, because I'm such an awkward person."

Also taking part this year are McFly's Tom Fletcher BBC Breakfast star Dan Walker, Gordon Ramsay's daughter Tilly Ramsay, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and former Bake Off winner John Whaite.
