Streets and Businesses Devastated by Floods in Ahrweiler, Germany

The marketplace in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, a town in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, was devastated by flash flooding which covered its main street in mud and debris.

This video, which was filmed by local business ahrweindepot.de after the flooding had subsided on July 18, shows restaurants, shops and properties in ruin, their contents strewn across the street, covered in mud.

At least 110 people are reported to have been killed by the recent flooding in the district of Ahrweiler alone.

A total of 117 people are now confirmed to have died in Rhineland-Palatinate state, a police spokesman told AFP, with 47 victims in neighbouring North Rhine-Westphalia and one in Bavaria. Across Europe, at least 188 people have been killed by flooding. Credit: ahrweindepot.de via Storyful
