Snow closed provincial courts in Corner Brook Friday, meaning Dean Penney won't make his next court appearance on a 1st-degree murder charge until next week.

Penney made his first appearance on Monday and is accused of killing his estranged wife, Jennifer Hillier-Penney, who has been missing since November 2016.

Penney was arrested last week, when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told reporters they had enough evidence to lay a charge after a seven-year investigation.

Hillier-Penney's remains have not yet been found.

Penney's first appearance was brief, lasting about five minutes. St. John's-based defence lawyer Rosellen Sullivan said she had not yet received the evidence against her client.

The case has now been set over to Dec. 27. He is scheduled to appear at provincial court at 11 a.m. NT.

Weather also closed the provincial court Friday in Grand Falls-Windsor.
