Two Virginia police officers charged in the storming of the U.S. Capitol in Washington earlier this month have been fired, a town official announced Tuesday. Rocky Mount Town Manager James Ervin announced the firings in a statement, but did not provide any additional details on the firing of former Sgt. Thomas “T.J.” Robertson and former Officer Jacob Fracker, The Roanoke Times reported. The town had no precedent to refer to for how to deal with this situation, Ervin wrote.
A California man disgruntled about the presidential election result was arrested Tuesday on charges alleging he threatened family members of a New York congressman and a journalist in text messages sent during the attack on the Capitol, authorities said. Robert Lemke, 35, was arrested in Bay Point, California, on charges filed in Manhattan federal court.
“Juno” and “Umbrella Academy” star Elliot Page has filed for divorce from his wife, Emma Portner. According to TMZ, Page has filed documents in New York seeking to dissolve the marriage after just three years together. The split comes two months after Page came out as transgender in early December. “I wanted to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot,” the actor wrote on Instagram at the time. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world. I also ask for patience & privacy but that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot’s existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much.” Page and Portner got married in 2018 in a surprise wedding ceremony, which Page later shared on Instagram writing, “Can’t believe I get to call this extraordinary woman my wife.” They first took their relationship public in 2017. Neither Page nor Portner has spoken out publically about the divorce as of Tuesday morning. Independent U.N. sanctions monitors accused Yemen's government, in a report seen by Reuters on Tuesday, of money-laundering and corruption "that adversely affected access to adequate food supplies" and said the Houthi group collected at least $1.8 billion in state revenue in 2019 to help fund its war effort. The annual report to the U.N. Security Council on the implementation of international sanctions on Yemen coincides with U.N. officials saying that the country is on the verge of a large-scale famine with millions of civilians at risk. The monitors said Saudi Arabia deposited $2 billion with the Central Bank of Yemen in January 2018 under a development and reconstruction program.

New York City officials announced this week that two pension funds for city workers will divest an estimated $4 billion in securities related to fossil fuel companies in order to promote clean energy use. “The divestment from fossil fuels is possible and necessary,” said City Comptroller Scott Stringer, who joined Mayor Bill de Blasio at a video briefing on Tuesday. De Blasio and Stringer announced Monday that the boards of the New York City Employees’ Retirement System, worth $91.4 billion, and the New York City Teachers’ Retirement System, worth $77.4 billion, had voted to approve fossil fuel divestment.

Creative Artists Agency has promoted Rachel Rusch to co-head of its motion picture talent department and will work alongside Franklin Latt in leading the group, the agency announced on Tuesday. Heart-stopping dashcam video captured the moment two vehicles collided in Utah’s Big Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday, January 24, sending them over the road’s edge and tumbling down a steep embankment toward a river below.Footage from Gabriel Zeigle’s dashboard camera shows a pickup truck swerving across lanes and colliding with the side of an oncoming Subaru, throwing both down into the ravine.Local media reported that the three occupants of the Subaru and the driver of the pickup were able to get out safely on their own. However, a woman in the pickup, which landed in a creek, needed to be carefully extricated by fire crews.Traffic was closed for several hours along State Route 190 for rescue and recovery operations.
