Steven Ma lends support to cancer warrior Sarena Li

18 Jul – Hong Kong singer-actor Steven Ma recently took some time off his busy schedule to help promote "The Chosen Heroine" (translated title) – the new autobiography by former singer and cancer warrior, Sarena Li.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who appeared alongside Sarena at a sharing session held on 13 July, stated that he is happy to be able to attend the event and show his support for the singer, who suffered from an aggressive form of adenoid cystic carcinoma.

It is noted that Sarena had been battling her condition for six years, and was ready to make her music comeback two years ago when she suddenly found herself struggling with the disease again.

"Her attending doctor had failed to recommend any further surgery, but suggested that she placed a weight implant in the upper eyelid to help with closing her eyes. Another operation is to pull up the face, but it's riskier and need more time to consider," he said.

Steven also hopes that the book would sell out, as the sales would help Sarena with her medical and living expenses.

"We don't want her to feel like she is a charity case, but that she could earn the money herself through her own ability. If the sales are good, the publisher will reprint the book," he said.

The actor also stated that he has no qualms attending more promotional events for Sarena, and even volunteered to attend the Book Fair with her.

"Her positive attitude and spirit are such an inspiration. I would even consider using her experience as a blueprint for a stage play or a movie so that her story could inspire more people out there," he said.
