ESPN pundit Stephen A. Smith seemed to stun Bill Maher’s live audience on Friday night as he took down Democrats for prioritizing “issues that pertain to less than 1% of the population.”

Smith was joined by actor Jesse Eisenberg and California Rep. Ro Khanna in a round table discussion with Real Time host Maher as he alleged that Democrats enabled President Donald Trump’s sweeping victory.

“Here’s the deal. The man was impeached twice. He was convicted on 34 felony counts,” said Smith. “And the American people said, ‘He’s closer to normal than what we see on the left’.”

Maher seemed in total agreement, commenting “exactly” in response to Smith’s take.

Smith then went on, “Why? Because something that pertains… when you talk about the transgender community, for example, you’re talking about issues that pertain to less than 1% of the population. The Democratic Party came across as if that was the priority, more so than other issues.”

Smith addressed the Trump administration’s pledge to eradicate birthright citizenship, adding that he believes Trump knows the chances of passing such legislation are slim to none.

Nevertheless, Smith said that Trump’s signing of the executive order shows voters he’s serious about keeping promises he made on the campaign trail. “He’s gonna say, ‘I kept my promise’,” Smith said. “Then you turn around and you look at the left and you say, ‘What promises did you keep?’”

Smith claimed that voters are waiting for change that they haven’t seen from Democrats.

“What voter can look at the Democrat Party and say, ‘There’s a voice for us, somebody who speaks for us, that goes up on Capitol Hill and fights the fights that we want them fighting on our behalf’?” said Smith.

He added, “They didn’t do that, that’s why their behinds are home, and that man is back in the White House.”
