The CBS All Access nine-part adaptation series based on King's 1978 novel has just dropped its first teaser trailer showing off the film's all-star cast, including Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgård and Aquaman's Amber Heard.
The mammoth-sized novel follows a post-apocalyptic world after a deadly virus – of all things – has wiped out most of the population.
The series, eerily relevant 40 years after it was written, will see an eternal struggle between the dark and the light takes place between the 108-year-old Mother Abigail (Goldberg), a survivor of the virus, and The Man in Black (Skarsgård).
Showrunner Benjamin Cavell previously said: "During the two years we spent making The Stand, we all felt the responsibility of adapting what may be the most beloved work of one of the world's most beloved storytellers, but none of us could have imagined that Stephen King's 40-year-old masterpiece about a global pandemic would come to be so eerily relevant.
"We're honoured to tell this sprawling, epic story, including a new coda that Stephen King has wanted to add for decades.
"We're so proud of this show and its attempt to find meaning and hope in the most uncertain of times. We can't wait to share it with the world."
The Stand will premiere on Thursday, December 17 on CBS All Access.
