Stephen Chow teases script to new ‘Shaolin Soccer’ film, accepting talent submissions via email

KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 — Famous Hong Kong filmmaker and comedian Stephen Chow has confirmed a new Shaolin Soccer film is in the works.

Via a video on his Instagram, Chow teased the first draft script to the new film which will be titled Shaolin Women’s Soccer.

The opening theme of the first Shaolin Soccer movie, released 22 years ago, can also be heard in the background.

The announcement, which was in celebration of his 61st birthday, also saw Chow announcing a global talent search.

He called out to women from around the world to join in the production of the new film by submitting their details via email.

“Here’s my birthday wish. To spend a good time with so many pretty girls (young, beautiful, smart, curvy, ATHLETIC).

“All countries are welcomed. The more the better! For those who are qualified, please send recent photos and detailed info to mediacvinfo@gmail.com.

“Photoshopped photos will never work. It will be condemned by us and by the United Nations,” Chow joked in his post.

This will be Chow’s first project since his 2019 movie The New King of Comedy.

Chow’s post has garnered over 80,000 likes along with over 4,000 comments.

Hong Kong Cantopop star Edison Chen was also seen in the comment section cheekily asking to be part of the production.

“Can I be one of the girls?” wrote Chen.

Since its release in 2001, Chow’s hit comedy Shaolin Soccer has garnered over US$40 million (RM187 million) in worldwide collection and has also bagged numerous awards including the 2002 Golden Horse Awards for best director and best actor.
