Stefanie Sun and Charlie Young are local tourists in Kampong Glam

SINGAPORE – With international travelling on the lockdown since the pandemic, many took to rediscovering the joys of hidden gems in their own backyards. Local singer Stefanie Sun did the same on 4 August, joined by a few friends including Hong Kong actress Charlie Young, by exploring Kampong Glam and sharing it on her Instagram with her fans.

Ahead of National Day, Stefanie posted a series of photos captioned in Chinese, “We found somewhere to sight-see in”, hashtagging Arab Street and tagging the restaurant that she had dined in. Pictured with her is Singapore-based Hong Kong actress Charlie Young, who stays here with her husband, Singaporean lawyer Khoo Shao Tze, and their three-year-old twins, Aloysius and Ignatius.

One of the posted photos included Sun and her friends with the Sultan Mosque in the background. While the mosque is closed to tour visits, the group of friends will have to make do with a wefie from a distance.

Tagged in her location is also Hjh Maimunah Restaurant and Catering, an eatery known for its traditional, Kampung-styled Malay cuisine. No Instagram post is complete without food photos, and the group ordered some of Hjh Maimunah’s recommended dishes including Tahu Telur and Lemak Siput.

The delectable dishes received praiseworthy comments from Sun’s fans such as “I am hungry just from the photos” and “I love this restaurant too!”. Hjh Maimunah Restaurant had also expressed their thanks to the singer for having lunch at the eatery: “Thank you for the support Stefanie, we’re so glad both of you had a good time!”.
