Your Steak Preference Might Be The Reason You're Still Single

Is ordering a well done steak a dating dealbreaker? Turns out it might be! After finding out that “over 53 percent of Americans say they wouldn’t date someone over how they like their steak cooked,” I wondered what other seemingly harmless habits could be standing in the way of successful relationships. Where we used to wonder if a Taurus could ever date a Leo, we now have to ask ourselves—can an oat milk devotee find love with a cow's milk fan?

To learn more, I turned to some of the biggest food lovers I know: my coworkers. Here are the food preferences, opinions, and habits that basically make you undateable, according to Delish staffers.

HOW YOU PREFER YOUR STEAK

“Well done steaks are for monsters.” -Philip, Senior Post-Production Supervisor

DRINKING COW'S MILK

“Cow's milk drinkers. Like a whole glass of cow's milk and nothing else.” -Alexis, Associate Editor

NOT LIKING PIZZA

“The last person I went out with said that she never gets 'hungry for pizza.' She knows people like it but it's never been something she craved. This was our first and last date.” - Zach, Video Editor

NOT SHARING

“I would never date someone that wouldn't share their food with me. If you ordered fries they're OUR fries.” -Lena, Senior Food Editor

DISLIKING DESSERT

“Someone who doesn’t eat dessert or has convinced themselves that they don’t like desserts and sweets. Are you human?” -June, Senior Food Producer

CAN’T HANDLE THE HEAT

“I couldn't date anyone with a delicate stomach because they wouldn't be able to handle my Mexican food. (My sister's boyfriend gets sick EVERY TIME we go to Mexico and she gets super annoyed hahaha.)” -Sarah, Digital Designer

MY MILK, MY CHOICE

“Once I went on a coffee date and went to put milk in my iced coffee. I was informed by my date, 'That’s illegal.' It evidently wasn’t a dealbreaker for him, but maybe should have been for me.” -Ellie, Video Editor

CHEAP TIPS & NO CHEESE

“Someone who is a cheap tipper… BYE. Also, anyone who doesn’t like cheese!!! Good DAY, sir. (Lactose intolerant folks are the only ones who get out of this one.)” -Chelsea, Director of Photography

HOW YOU TREAT SERVERS

“Rude to servers! OMG, it is my BIGGEST pet peeve.” -Justin, Assistant Food Editor

PICKY EATING

“Picky eaters in general. Eating with someone is a good barometer of personality. You don’t have to like to eat weird things, but if you refuse to try and make the decision after trying, you’re not an adventurous person and won’t like to try new fun things in life at all.” - Alex, Video Editor

ALAS, THERE IS STILL HOPE:

“My husband LOVED canned green beans when we met in college (contrary to the name, they aren't green when they come out of the can). I didn't hold the sins of his mother's cooking against him and he's proof that you can change a man (or at least what he eats). He's much more adventurous and knowledgeable now.” -Kate, Executive Director of Marketing & Brand Strategy

So, there you have it. If you’re ordering well done steak and wondering why you’re still single, you may have just found the answer. But hey, there’s always room for change!
