We are just days away from the launch of Starfield (unless you pre-ordered the Premium Edition), and Steam users will be pleased to know you can now preload the game.

It takes a chunk of hard drive space

To better prepare for release day, if you’re planning on playing the game on PC, it’s probably a good idea to go ahead and install it now. Taking up a sizeable 116 GB, Starfield is unsurprisingly going to put a dent in your HDD or SSD.

Preloads on Xbox were ready a couple of weeks ago, so it’ll be a relief for Steam users to finally be able to install it on their systems now.

While the release date proper for the upcoming Bethesda RPG is September 6 (a week from today), those who preordered the Premium Edition will get to play Starfield as early as August 31, depending on where you’re from.

This special version comes with additional goodies, as well as the aforementioned Early Access bonus, such as the Constellation skin pack and a digital art book.

While the title is coming to Xbox Game Pass from day one, Microsoft has seemingly preempted fans who were planning on playing Starfield for cheap. As such, the company has removed the Game Pass $1 trial, so any newcomers to the cloud service will have to pay the regular monthly price.

So just to recap: if you’ve pre-ordered a copy on Steam, you can now go ahead and preload the game ahead of its launch. Unless you have the Premium Edition, you’ll be able to play Starfield from September 6 on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
