Fresh details have surfaced regarding the upcoming prequel series Star Wars: The High Republic.

Announced back in February, this new space-opera project will take the form of YA novels. They will be written by the likes of Claudia Gray and Daniel José Older, and introduce readers to a time when the Jedi Order and Galactic Republic were at the peak of their powers.

But thanks to a new blog on the official website, we now know more about the never-before-seen characters set to hit the page.

First up we've got Avar Kriss, the "brightest, most noble example of Jedi-hood."

Wielding a green lightsaber, she's also described as compassionate and "always ready to sacrifice herself over others."

Loden Greatstorm is another fresh face – a Twi'lek Jedi Master with a good sense of humour and is "considered to be one of the best teachers in the Jedi Order."

Other rising figures in the stories are green-skinned 16-year-old Vernestra 'Vern' Rwoh, Stellan Gios of planet Caragon-Viner and Keeve Trennis, a "firebrand Jedi believed to have a great future ahead of her."

Meanwhile, writer Cavan Scott teased: "We've put a lot of time and effort into making our Jedi feel like real, rounded individuals. They are all different, approaching the Force in individual and unique ways and yet are united with a common goal.

"They serve not out of unwavering dogma, but a deep passion to protect light and life. And they're all at different stages in their individual journeys."
