Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa on Wednesday launched a search for eight people to join him as the first private passenger on a trip around the moon with Elon Musk's SpaceX. The entrepreneur, who sold his online fashion business Zozo Inc to SoftBank in 2019, is paying the entire cost of the voyage on SpaceX's next-generation reusable launch vehicle, dubbed the Starship. Two recent prototypes have exploded during testing, underscoring the risks for Maezawa, 45, and his fellow passengers, who must also contend with the strains of space travel in the first private journey beyond Earth's orbit.
Nearly a decade ago, the United States was touting Myanmar as an American success story. The collapse is not America’s fault, to be sure, but it follows inconsistent efforts to nudge the Southeast Asian nation further toward democracy, enthusiasm for which was diminished by a systematic campaign of repression against Muslim minorities in the country's north. After years of robust diplomacy with Myanmar under President Barack Obama focused mainly on then-opposition leader and now jailed State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi, the Trump administration adopted a largely hands-off policy.
It feels very much like Yusei Kikuchi just arrived in the majors after his highly anticipated move from Japan. “I feel that he’s kind of got his arms around where he’s at as a pitcher and hopefully it starts playing out on the field more consistently,” manager Scott Servais said. Kikuchi got in his first work of spring training Tuesday, throwing two innings, allowing one hit, one run and striking out three against the Cleveland Indians.

The Brazilian variant of the coronavirus has emerged in Oregon, the first known such case on the U.S. West Coast, medical authorities said Tuesday. The sample was sent to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the end of January by medical officials in Douglas County, Oregon. “The P.1 variant ... appears to be related to business travel outside the United States to and from Brazil,” the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said in a statement Tuesday.
A man who spent more than two months in a cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) in Reno, Nevada, after contracting COVID-19 was released on February 21, after 85 days in the hospital, and was reunited with his children, said Renown Health.Staff at Renown Health’s Cardiac ICU lined a hallway on February 21 to applaud and bid farewell to Fernando, who had been mechanically ventilated for 60 days and placed in a chemically induced coma during his stay.“For weeks, doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists at Renown worried Fernando wouldn’t recover,” Renown Health wrote. “Fortunately, his fighting spirit prevailed, and even when he was unable to respond to his family or those taking care of him, he made small steps toward recovery.”Renown said Fernando’s success story had been “particularly touching to the staff” and boosted morale.“The past year has brought forth unprecedented challenges as Renown care providers have fought to adapt to the changing needs of their patients, hospital, and community,” the company wrote. “At times, the staff felt defeated and uncertain for what would come next. However, as COVID cases decline in our community as well as our hospitals, there truly is no better way to share this renewed sense of hope than through stories like Fernando’s.” Credit: Renown Health via Storyful

Jadon Sancho finished a lightning-quick counter attack for Borussia Dortmund to secure a 1-0 win over Borussia Moenchengladbach in the German Cup on Tuesday and book their spot in the semi-finals. With Gladbach coach Marco Rose facing his future team after agreeing earlier this month to join Dortmund next season, Sancho piled more misery on their opponents, who have now lost the last four games in all competitions since Rose announced his decision. After an early good chance for Marco Reus, Dortmund's Erling Haaland broke clear in the 36th minute and should have scored with only the Gladbach keeper to beat but the Norwegian fired wide.

Paramount+’s upcoming “Real World” reunion series will bring the entire original cast to the same New York City loft they shared in 1992 — with one major exception. Eric Nies, one of the MTV reality show’s seven original stars, was forced to stay in a hotel room apart from the other housemates and video call in for the duration of filming, he told the The New York Times. Nies said he couldn’t explain why he wasn’t able to live with the rest of the cast (which, after all, is the entire premise of “The Real World”), saying only that it was “definitely not by my choice.” The six other original cast members — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi and Kevin Powell — were all reunited in person at the SoHo loft where their original season was set. Also Read: Original 'Real World: New York' Cast to Reunite for Paramount+ Revival As previously reported, “The Real World Homecoming” will premiere March 4 upon the launch of ViacomCBS’s newly rebranded streaming service Paramount+. The cast will revisit memorable moments from the groundbreaking reality series’ first season and discuss how the show transformed their lives. “Hopefully we’ve reached this level where the slings and arrows and heatedness can mature into a rational conversation and a real discourse,” Blasband told the Times. “Because that’s what we need in this country. We’ve become a combative society, and in that combat, we lose reason.” However, a trailer for the series, released last week, seems to suggest not so much has changed in the nearly 30 years since “The Real World” first aired. The two-minute clip showed tearful conversations about how much being on the show affected them all personally, as well as at least one heated confrontation that led to a cast member storming off set to the others’ surprise.
