Sri Lanka's president elect 'always opposed' Rajapaksas
STORY: "How am I an old friend of Rajapaksa? When do I know the Rajapaksa(s)? I've been opposing them all this time," said Wickremesinghe when asked by reporters how his leadership would be different from his predecessor Gotabaya Rajapaksa who fled the country and resigned following mass protests of his handling of the economy.
Wickremesinghe, who was sworn in on Thursday (July 21), is unpopular among some protesters who stormed his official residence this month when he was prime minister and burnt down his private house.
