Sri Lankan Workers March in Anti-Government Protest in Kandy

Sri Lankan workers kicked off a march from Kandy to the country’s capital of Colombo on Tuesday, April 26, calling for President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to step down amid an ongoing economic crisis.

The march, led by opposition political party Samagi Jana Balawegaya, intended to “put pressure on [Rajapaksa] to resign,” said Harsha de Silva, a Member of Parliament for the Colombo district.

“Hundreds” of health care, government, and private sector workers marched in the island-wide strike on Thursday, according to News 1st, demanding the “immediate removal of the government.”
