Spring Breakers Party in Texas Despite Coronavirus Concerns

A large crowd of young spring break revelers gathered to party on the beach in Port Aransas, Texas, on March 11, despite mounting fears of the spread of coronavirus and best practice guidelines to prevent spread.

In nearby South Padre Island, another popular spring break destination, the mayor on March 16 declared a state of emergency due to COVID-19, but spring-breakers refused to cancel their plans and continued to stay and arrive in the town to vacation, local news reported.

As of March 18 there were 95 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus and three deaths reported in Texas, the Texas Tribune reported. Credit: DJ Balenci via Storyful
