A sports bar near the University of South Carolina in Columbia was seen packed with revelers on September 3, reported to be students defying the university’s COVID-19 restrictions.
Footage uploaded by News 4, the University of South Carolina’s student-run TV news station, shows TLC Sports Bar and Grill crowded with people. Most of the bar patrons seen do not have facial coverings and are not engaging in social distancing.
News 4 wrote on Twitter: “Students say they’re going here because it’s just outside of Columbia city limits, and doesn’t have strict COVID safety guidelines.”
Later video of the crowd shows people exiting the bar, reportedly dispersing before deputies arrived.
The University of South Carolina responded to the footage, writing: “It’s disappointing to see videos like these, and while we don’t know which of the attendees were our students, we can assume many likely were. We continue to strongly urge all of our students to follow public health guidelines to keep our entire community safe: wear face coverings, socially distance and avoid large in-person gatherings like the ones depicted in the video.” Credit: News 4 via Storyful
