Spirit Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Jacksonville Due to Battery Fire

Fire crews were seen on board a Spirit Airline flight after the plane, traveling from Dallas to Orlando, was forced to make an emergency landing on Wednesday, March 1, due to a battery fire.

A spokesperson for the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told local media that a total of 10 people were hospitalized from the flight, including passengers and crew members.

A Spirit Airlines statement to News4Jax read: “We thank our crew and Guests for their quick actions to ensure the safety of everyone onboard, and we thank first responders for meeting the aircraft. We are arranging alternate transportation for our Guests from Jacksonville to Orlando.”

Footage filmed by Joseph Fleck showed firefighters on the plane checking an overhead luggage bin.

Fleck posted the video saying, “stuck in Jacksonville cause someone’s battery pack exploded on the plane. Hope I get to take my kids to Disneyworld soon.” Credit: Joseph Fleck via Storyful
