11.11 used to be just another cool-looking date in the calendar (just look at the symmetry of the numbers!), but when e-commerce company Alibaba branded it into China’s biggest shopping day in 2009, it took the world by storm and set a new global trend.
Also known as Singles’ Day or Double 11, there's an unofficial Internet slang where the number "1" is used to mean a single man who doesn't marry and thus, is unable to grow his family tree (essentially, a "bare stick").
However, on this day — or week, because one day isn’t exactly enough — 11.11 is more commonly associated with promotions and discounts aplenty, no matter what you intend to buy (yes, even food)!
Fun fact: In Japan and Korea, 11.11 is also known as Pocky/Pepero Day because the number ‘1’ resembles the shape of the famous snack.
Although it’s known as a ‘day for singles’, instead of only celebrating singledom and the terrific, independent person you are, why not go one step further and consider getting a property? Now that’s the ultimate sign of independence!
We hear you. “Why are you suggesting to buy a home over getting a partner?” Well, we're not favouring one over the other as both of them require long-term commitment; lots of tender, loving care (TLC); and do involve quite a bit of money.
But hear us out first: A home won’t fight you for control of the Netflix account and what to watch; you won’t have to argue and go to bed unhappy; best of all, you can do whatever you want in your very own property, without much fear of repercussion!
There’s also plenty of freedom (ice-cream for all three meals, anyone?) and for some, better accessibility and convenience.
Properties also have the potential to appreciate in time, giving you a higher return on investment (ROI) so you have the option to sell in the future, and upgrade to a better home if you so choose.
Owning a property works as a safety net by securing a roof over your head and as a haven, plus, it’s less emotionally-taxing as it doesn't involve unnecessary fighting right after a long day at work (goodbye, drama!)
We know that house-hunting during the nationwide CMCO (Conditional Movement Control Order) — or a global pandemic, for that matter — can be challenging and less thrilling than before, but there's good news!
