Speedy Tortoise Chases Dog Around English Garden

A tortoise with a big personality and a decent turn of foot showed a visiting dog who was boss when it chased the pooch around a garden in Chester recently.

Alison Eite was dog-sitting the cavapoo when her tortoise, Tuk, set off in pursuit.

Speaking to Storyful, Eite said, "Tuk took an instant dislike to this little cavapoo I had staying with me for the week and, although I’ve seen Tuk move quickly before, I’ve never seen him run as quickly as this.

“My dog Eddie, who passed in November, was very submissive to Tuk and they got along great, other than eating each other’s treats whenever they could,” she added. “I’m wondering if Tuk feels as though these new dogs are invading Eddie’s space.”

The tortoise was rescued at a street market in Morocco 20 years ago and taken back to England, Eite said.

“Tuk is friendly and loving and recognizes people he loves instantly,” she said. “He holds a grudge if I put him away when he wants to be out and is always grumpy with me when he wakes from hibernation.” Credit: Alison Eite via Storyful
