Footage shared by the Mesa Fire & Medical Department in Arizona shows a historic military plane making a dramatic belly landing at Falcon Field Airport after its landing gear failed to deploy.
Reports said the aircraft was an ex-Navy North American T6, a kind of plane used to train pilots during World War II and into the 1970s.
Mesa Fire & Medical Department Captain Mike Castillo said in a statement that the plane’s landing gear was experiencing hydraulic failure, preventing landing.
“The plane was instructed by the tower to do multiple flybys to burn fuel before safely making a belly landing,” the statement said.
Officials said that two passengers were on board at the time of the incident and that both were able to exit the plane without injury after landing. Credit: Mesa Fire & Medical Department via Storyful
