Spanish Firefighters Battle Wildfire as Temperatures Soar

A wildfire burning in a mountain range in the Spanish region of Castile and Leon led to the evacuation of 14 towns, according to local news reports on the morning of Saturday, June 18.

The region’s environmental management agency, Naturaleza Castilla y Leon, said the fire broke out on Wednesday night in the Sierra de la Culebra mountain range in the Zamora province, close to the Portuguese border.

On Saturday morning, local news reports said the blaze had reached almost 11,000 acres, and officials tweeted that the weather conditions remained “adverse.”
