Juan Carlos, the former King of Spain, has reportedly been in Abu Dhabi since leaving his country on Monday (August 3) amid allegations of corruption.
According to a report by the ABC newspaper on Friday (August 7), Juan Carlos has been staying at Abu Dhabi's exclusive Emirates Palace Hotel after flying out there on a private jet.
United Arab Emirates officials and the Emirates Palace Hotel didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
82-year-old Juan Carlos abruptly announced his decision to leave Spain.
But there's been no official confirmation of his whereabouts.
His disappearance follows a decision in June by Spain's Supreme Court to open an initial investigation into the former king's involvement in a high-speed rail contract in Saudi Arabia.
That followed a report in a Swiss newspaper which said he'd received $100 million from the late Saudi king.
Juan Carlos isn't formally under investigation - and has repeatedly declined to comment on the allegations.
Spain and Abu Dhabi have an extradition agreement, signed by Juan Carlos himself in 2010.
