Soyuz Spacecraft Lifts Off to Bring Expedition 64 Astronauts to International Space Station

NASA astronaut Kate Rubins and Russian cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Soyuz spacecraft on October 14 for a six-month expedition to the International Space Station.

It is Rubins’s second mission to the station following a six-month stay in 2016, and she had a second reason to celebrate her latest launch – October 14 is her birthday.

“Congratulations to Kate Rubins, Sergey Ryzhikov and Sergey Kud-Sverchkov on a safe launch!” tweeted NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine. “Looking forward to seeing you on the Space Station!” Credit: NASA/@Space_Station via Storyful
