Sources: Brighton put top star up for sale as brutal De Zerbi stance revealed; Man Utd, Chelsea previously linked
Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez is set to leave the club this summer after falling out of favour with manager Roberto De Zerbi, TEAMtalk understands.
Sanchez joined Brighton U18s from Levante’s youth setup in July 2013. After graduating from the Brighton academy, he had loan spells at Forest Green and Rochdale to pick up senior experience.
The shot-stopper made his Seagulls debut in November 2020. He soon went on to displace Matt Ryan as the club’s number one and managed 27 appearances that season, keeping 10 clean sheets.
Sanchez remained as Brighton’s first-choice keeper for the first six months of De Zerbi’s reign, but he now looks set to follow in Ryan’s footsteps as Jason Steele has stolen his starting spot.
Sanchez was a surprise absentee from Brighton’s matchday squad for last weekend’s win at Arsenal and will not be involved for Thursday’s clash with Newcastle United.
De Zerbi claims it was Sanchez’s decision to not be currently involved with the first team after falling behind Steele in the pecking order. Sanchez has only started three of the last 14 matches in all competitions.
Brighton are understood to be in the market for a new keeper in this summer’s transfer window, and TEAMtalk has been told this will pave the way for them to let Sanchez leave.

Sanchez is open to a move away from the Amex Stadium as he does not want to be playing a back-up role and wants to be playing regular first-team football to safeguard his place in the Spain national team squad.
TEAMtalk understands a number of Premier League and La Liga sides are monitoring Sanchez’s situation on the South Coast with the player set to enter the final two years of his contract at Brighton.
The likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham have previously been linked with the 25-year-old. However, it remains to be seen whether any of that trio will bid for him once the summer window gets underway.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s two Young Player of the Season nominees have been revealed.
