Sophie Turner says Taylor Swift was 'an absolute hero' in the aftermath of her divorce from Joe Jonas
Sophie Turner discussed her friendship with Taylor Swift in an interview with British Vogue.
Turner and her two kids stayed at Swift's New York City apartment following her split from Joe Jonas.
"I've never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her," Turner said of Swift.
Sophie Turner has confirmed the hunches of Swifties everywhere, praising Taylor Swift as a "hero" with a "heart of gold."
In an interview with British Vogue published Wednesday, Turner discussed her nascent friendship with Swift.
The two women were photographed dining with a group of friends last year shortly after news broke that Turner's husband, Joe Jonas, had filed for divorce.
Reeling from their split and the subsequent media frenzy, Turner found herself in New York City with her two young daughters and no place to crash. She reached out to Swift to ask if she knew anywhere good to rent. Instead, Swift freely offered her own apartment.
"Taylor was an absolute hero to me this year," Turner said. "I've never been more grateful to anyone than I am for her because she took my children and me, and provided us with a home and a safe space. She really has a heart of gold."
Swift and Turner have known each other for years, though according to British Vogue, Turner "hadn't felt she was able to cultivate the friendship" — presumably because Swift dated Jonas as a teenager. Their high-profile breakup reportedly inspired scathing tracks like "Forever & Always" and "Mr. Perfectly Fine" from Swift's 2008 album "Fearless."
About eight years later, in 2016, Jonas met Turner after he DMed her on Instagram. The boy bander was 26 or 27 years old at the time, while Turner, who was still filming HBO's "Game of Thrones," was 20.
"It was really surreal, like a fever dream," Turner told British Vogue. "Because he was older than me, I just felt like I was really taken care of, to the point I came back home and didn't know how to do anything for myself."
Turner and Jonas married in 2019 and welcomed their first child, Willa, in 2020. Two years later, Turner gave birth to their second daughter, Delphine.
According to her court filings, Turner found out that Jonas had filed for divorce through the media when the news made headlines. She did not confirm or deny this during her interview, citing legal restrictions.
However, she did describe the aftermath as "the worst few days of my life."
Anonymous sources quoted by tabloids like TMZ and The Sun seemed to blame Turner for her failed marriage, painting her as a party animal and an absent mother.
But fans rallied around Turner, slamming the coverage of her divorce as a "smear campaign" rooted in sexist tropes.
"I just kept having to say to myself, 'None of this is true. You are a good mum and you've never been a partier,'" Turner told British Vogue.
"I mean, it's unfathomable the amount of people that will just make shit up and put it up based on a picture," she continued. "A picture might tell a thousand words, but it's not my story. It felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn't written, hadn't produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I'm still in shock."
