Soledad Fire Prompts Freeway Closure and Evacuations

The 14 Freeway near Agua Dulce in Santa Clarita, California, was temporarily shut down after a fire nearby grew to more than 1,000 acres.

The fire was initially reported to be burning at around five to seven acres. However, it quickly spread and as of 8 pm on July 5 it stood at 1,100 acres and zero percent containment.

Police set up a temporary shelter in a parking lot, urging people to stay in their cars.

The 14 Freeway was reported to have partially reopened as of 11 pm on Sunday. Crews were expected to work through the night to contain the blaze. Credit: Melissa Jean-Baptiste via Storyful
