Snowfall dusts parts of Australia on first day of winter

STORY: A cold snap has brought strong winds and icy conditions to parts of the country over the past few days, with schools shutdown and state emergency services responding to over a thousand calls for help.

Sydney resident, Julie Gunner, made the three-hour drive west to Oberon to see the "magical" snowfall.

The heavy snowfall in some areas has allowed at least one ski resort to open a week earlier than anticipated, with the Perisher Ski Resort in New South Wales announcing it would open on Saturday (June 4). Conditions are expected to ease by Friday (June 3), according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
