Snow Temporarily Closes Manchester Airport Runways

Passengers faced hours-long delays after runways were closed for a time due to snow at Manchester Airport on the morning of Thursday, January 19.

Manchester Airport said on Twitter at 6:20 am local time that its runways were closed due to a “period of heavy snow fall" in the early hours. At around 8:45 am, the airport tweeted that operations had resumed.

This video showing the snowy conditions was filmed by Twitter user @decmo_. They told Storyful they were waiting on a plane destined for Paris for several hours.

They tweeted “Finally out of here” just after 11 am, after what they said had been a five-hour delay. Credit: @decmo_ via Storyful
