Snow and Ice Prompt Road Closures in Southern California

Wind, snow and ice were creating treacherous driving conditions and prompted multiple road closures near Bakersfield and Mojave in Kern County, southern California, on Wednesday, March 1, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) in Mojave said the closed routes included a 50-mile section of SR-58 between Mojave and Bakersfield, an 80-mile section of Interstate 5 between Bakersfield and Santa Clarita, and a 30-mile stretch of SR-178 between Weldon and SR-14 near Inyokern.
