Snow Band Brings Whiteout Conditions Across Iowa

A snow band brought blizzard conditions throughout Iowa on Thursday, February 4, as heavy snowfall significantly reduced visibility and created hazardous roads, footage taken near Ames shows.

The National Weather Service (NWS) warned of dangerous travel conditions into Thursday evening across central and eastern Iowa due to low temperatures and strong winds. The Iowa Department of Transportation reported the closure of several major highways including the I-80 due to crashes.

This footage was shared by Kevin Cavallin, who said intermittent whiteout conditions were seen two miles south of Ames at around 9 am on Thursday.
