SMRT bus driver of Service 972 contracts COVID-19
SINGAPORE — An SMRT bus driver of Service 972 has contracted COVID-19, the transport operator said on Thursday (2 Thursday).
“An SMRT Bus Captain tested positive for COVID-19 on 31 March. He was last at work on Friday (27 March) for Service 972. His rest day was 28 March. He felt unwell on 29 March and saw a doctor that day. He visited the doctor again on 31 March and was conveyed to the hospital,” said Tan Kian Heong, President of SMRT Road Holdings.
The bus driver is currently warded and in a stable condition. SMRT is monitoring his condition and offering help to him and his family, Tan said.
The vehicles and premises that the bus driver had been in contact with have been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. Tan said SMRT has stepped up its cleaning of high commuter touchpoints in its premises, facilities and vehicles since late January.
As a precautionary measure, SMRT has advised its workforce to continue monitoring their health closely.
“The health and well-being of our commuters and staff are our top priority. We would like to assure commuters that all necessary precautions are being taken to safeguard the well-being of our commuters and staff,” Tan said.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Health identified 49 more coronavirus cases and three more clusters here, bringing the country’s total to 1,049.
