South Lake Tahoe, California, remained under mandatory evacuation orders as the Caldor Fire burning in the region reached 212,987 acres by Friday, September 3, according to officials.
This footage released by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) on Friday shows a lone bear wandering around the area.
“Smokey Bear joined MCSO deputies Hopper and Grayson on security patrol of an evacuated neighborhood in the South Lake Tahoe area during our ongoing mutual aid support efforts during the Caldor Fire,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a caption.
Multiple bear sightings have been reported as woodland animals remain threatened by the active fire. A black bear that suffered third-degree burns was euthanized on the scene of the blaze after state wildlife officials determined the action necessary, local media reported.
