Smoke Rises From Mexico's Popocatepetl Volcano as Warnings Remain in Place

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano sent a column of smoke into the air on Tuesday, January 5, as a yellow alert remained in place during a period of increased activity.

Footage shot from the nearby town of Tianguismanalco shows gases and ash pluming from the volcano that morning.

The National Civil Protection Coordination said it recorded four exhalations and one explosion within a 24-hour period between January 4 to 5. Emissions from the volcano reaching heights of up to 800 meters were also documented on the same date. Credit: Webcamsdemexico via Storyful
