Smoke Rises From Alisal Fire Burning in Santa Barbara County

Firefighters in California made progress containing the Alisal fire burning northwest of Santa Barbara by Friday, October 15, officials said.

As of October 15, the fire was 16,901 acres in size and was 41 percent contained, according to official reports.

Containment jumped overnight from five percent, local media reported, as evacuations were ordered in the town of Gaviota.

A total of 1,751 personnel were fighting the fire in Santa Barbara County, which was first reported on Monday afternoon. Its cause was under investigation.
