Smoke rises above alleged drone attack in Crimea

STORY: Sevastopol, which is on the Crimean peninsula that Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014, has come under repeated air attacks since Russia sent troops into Ukraine last February. Russian officials have blamed the attacks on Ukraine.

The Russian defence ministry on Monday (April 24) said it repelled an attack by naval drones on its Black Sea fleet stationed in Sevastopol in the early hours of the day.

Soon after, the Russian defence ministry said that three Ukrainian naval drones had unsuccessfully attempted overnight to attack Russia's Black Sea fleet in Sevastopol.

Reuters was unable to verify the claim.

Kyiv almost never publicly claims responsibility for attacks inside Russia and on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine.
