A fire broke out at a government building in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on January 5, as protests over an increase in gas prices continued amid a state of emergency.

Footage by local resident Adil Liyanov shows smoke billowing across Republic Square, where, according to local news reports, protesters broke into a building housing the mayor’s office.
