Smoke Billows From Power Plant Fire in Coney Island

A two-alarm fire at a power plant in Brooklyn’s Coney Island neighborhood sent a plume of black smoke into the air on Thursday, May 13.

The plant supplies power for the Warbasse Houses, a self-contained development of more than 2,500 apartments, local news reports said. Power was out at the development due to the fire, local media said.

Service for the F subway train was paused between Kings Highway, Avenue X, and Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue while firefighters worked to contain the fire, the New York City Transit Authority said. Credit: Bob Farrell via Storyful
